Learn MoreAnother phenomenal tour with Glen Valentine. Thanks so much!!!
Erik was amazing. Rockjumper was amazing. We will definitely be looking for a trip with you in the future. No complaints. One of the best trips!
This was an extremely enjoyable and well-run tour that met or exceeded all expectations. It was evident from the start that the tour was carefully organized with great attention to detail but with flexibility for the leader to adjust the itinerary as required. When a coffee stop at a facility planned for a later overnight stay revealed evidence of poor service and questionable facilities, the leader worked with the office to arrange a far better and more conveniently located alternative. Later, after consultation with the drivers and local residents on security issues, he decided on a route change that saved considerable driving time while providing unplanned access to some excellent birding areas. Unfortunately, a not so positive security assessment later prevented a planned visit to the Jemma Valley. This tour proved to be exactly as advertised. There were some long drives on bumpy roads, some of the food was boring and a few of the overnight accommodations were a bit basic. But the birding was exceptional with virtually every target found and well seen along with a few exceptional surprise species. The pace was intense at times with some long days, but there was always sufficient time for rest. This tour was unusual in that there was no night birding. We did see a number of owls, plus a few nightjars, but all of them at day roosts. David Hoddinott is an exceptional bird tour leader, the best I have traveled with on the dozen or so birding tours I have taken. His knowledge of birds and where to find them is unmatched, as is his skill in identifying a huge diversity of species by sight and sound. And he put great energy into ensuring that everyone got good looks at every bird. Over many years of leading tours in Ethiopia he has developed and cultivated relationships with local people who guided us to some roosting owls and other interesting species. And he has developed a personal catalog of roadside locations where interesting species can reliably be found. And finally, he displayed boundless enthusiasm for finding the birds and joy in sharing each discovery. I would eagerly sign up for another tour with David.
Brad was great. Incredibly knowledgeable about not just the birds but the broader fauna and flora. Worked hard to get us on difficult birds and was also great on making sure everything was organized in terms of trip logistics. Despite him and Dusan having very different styles, I appreciated that they worked well together and played off each others strengths to maximize our success. Would definitely take another trip with either of them, or even better, the two of them together.
Lev was the perfect guide- knowledgeable, professional, polite, reliable. And well-dressed for the occasion with his bird-themed T-shirts! Everything was well organized and went smooth.
Another fantastic RJ trip! Javi did an excellent job finding the birds and especially the elusive Iberian Lynx. The accommodations went from comfortable to luxurious. The food and the wine - superb!! Me gusto Espana
